CERTIFIED ISR & WSI SWIM INSTRUCTOR
Becoming a mom completely changes your outlook—suddenly you’re responsible for a life that depends on you. For my husband and me, one of our biggest concerns was keeping our kids safe around water.
When our twins were about a year old, we moved into a home with an inground pool. I grew up comfortable around water, but my husband was not. We put multiple layers of protection in place—pool fences, alarms, cameras, extra locks, an automatic pool cover, and traditional swim lessons. Even with all of that, we still felt a sinking feeling that we needed to do more.
Breianna’s ISR Story
I talk about it to anyone I can because I believe it was one of the greatest things we have ever done for our children, giving them the ability and confidence to save their life. The peace of mind that came with that for us as parents is something I may never be able to fully put into words but I want to give that feeling to as many parents as I can.
As a swim parent myself and watching all 3 of my children successfully learn life saving skills, I can personally say that it was a moment that I think about often. I cried through a lot of their sessions because of the immense pride I had for them. Watching the confidence that radiated from each of them and how proud they were of their hard work is something to date that has not been replicated, it is an amazing thing to see! I wanted to emulate that feeling for parents and children over and over again while reaching as many families as I possibly could to give them the gift of these life-saving aquatic skills. I took the steps to become a certified ISR instructor.
My training and experience allow me to work with children of all abilities—including those with autism, sensory challenges, and developmental delays—meeting each child where they are. I became an ISR instructor to live out the mission: “Not one more child drowns.” My goal is to help families gain the same peace of mind I did, one child at a time.
I’ll never forget reading a story in my local twin moms’ group about a family whose twins, the same age as mine, nearly drowned at a party. One child survived with life-altering injuries, and their journey deeply impacted me. It pushed me to research water safety, and that’s when I found ISR.
I immediately enrolled my children, and today all three have completed ISR and continue with refreshers. The commitment—5 days a week, 10 minutes a day, for 6 weeks—was worth every moment. Watching their confidence grow and knowing they have the skills to save themselves is one of the greatest gifts I could give them. That peace of mind is something I want to share with as many families as possible, which inspired me to become a certified ISR instructor..
